Silk Mill
All of our silk is sourced directly from a family-owned and run silk mill founded in 1947 in Mysore and Bangalore. They believe in producing the highest quality silk possible while taking responsibility for the impact production and consumption has on the environment and their employees.
Silk dates as far back as 3000 BC. It’s a very fine natural fiber produced using the cocoons of silkworms. The cocoon is made of a single continuous thread of raw silk around 1 kilometer (2/3 of a mile) long. About 2,000 to 3,000 cocoons are required to make a pound of silk.
Silk is known for being a luxury but it is also strong as steel in tensile strength. It is the strongest natural fiber known to man.
A versatile fiber, silk is light and breezy in warm weather while being insulating in colder weather. Because it is lightweight, Silk travels extremely well and wrinkles are easily steamed out. As you may have already guessed, silk is one of our favorite textile fibers!
